About Costa Rica

In Costa Rica more than 70% of the population is Catholic. 

Many naively believe everything their priests tell them, thinking salvation is reached by good works and keeping the sacraments such as infant baptism and participating in communion, which according to them is Christ. 

They consider Mary "the mother of God" and some even pay tribute to her by walking up to 100 miles to go to worship “the virgin”.   

Once a year, Catholics will take a pilgrimage from different cities all across the country, some even barefoot, to the main basilica in Cartago.  Here we see footage of what worshipers do when they arrive.  They will drop down on their kness and crawl 100 ft until they reach the Virgin Mary.  

 When the gospel is preached to them, one of their more common answers is: “No, I remain with the religion of my parents, I will die with the religion of my parents”. Many mix their religion with occultist’s practices and witchcraft.  The sad fact is that every town in Costa Rica has a great Catholic temple, but the great majority of towns have absolutely no Baptist witness.
